About 250,000 people gathered in Munich to protest against Iranian authorities, making it the largest-ever European demonstration by opponents of Iran. Protesters filled Munich’s subway system with Iranian flags and chanted slogans as more people continued to arrive. The demonstration formed part of a global day of action called by Reza Pahlavi, with other large gatherings expected in Los Angeles and Toronto. Many protesters traveled from across Europe in anger over a bloody January crackdown in Iran in which security forces killed thousands. Some banners called for US military action, and US naval forces in the Persian Gulf remained poised.
