""I did not see them until it was too late. I should have seen them," he said."
""Oh my God, he doesn't see them, he is going to hit them"."
James Moyles, age 33, died after being struck by a Skoda Octavia in Ballina on 21 February 2024 at about 6:30pm. He and his four-year-old niece, Croía Barrett, were crossing at a pedestrian crossing on Lord Edward Street after leaving Carr's Daybreak. Mr Moyles threw Croía forward shortly before the impact, preventing her from being hit by the car. The vehicle, driven by Keith O'Brien, was estimated from CCTV to be travelling at 52.8 km/h when it struck Mr Moyles. The collision occurred after dark, in dry conditions on a well-lit road with yellow warning lights flashing. Bystanders, an off-duty nurse, a GP, paramedics and Order of Malta members attended the injured parties minutes after the incident.
