"Gardaí sealed off an area close to the town's Teffia Park estate after the incident. A second scene outside Longford Garda Station was also cordoned off after the younger of the two victims was found dumped just yards from the front entrance to the station. Forensic officers carried out an examination of the latter scene where the man, who is from the Galway area, was treated and subsequently rushed to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital."
"Officers attached to the Garda Armed Support Unit (ASU) were also drafted in overnight as unformed officers and detectives carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area. One line of inquiry is the violent scenes may have been prompted by an ongoing feud that has steadily intensified between two warring factions in the midlands town over recent weeks. "Gardaí are investigating following an alleged incident of assault that occurred in the Longford Town area on Monday 9th February, 2026 at approximately 9pm," said a garda spokesperson."
Two males, aged in their 30s and 20s, were assaulted in Longford town at about 9pm on Monday night. Gardaí sealed off an area near the town's Teffia Park estate and cordoned a second scene outside Longford Garda Station after the younger victim was found dumped close to the station entrance. Forensic officers examined the latter scene while the man, who is from the Galway area, was treated and rushed to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital. Officers from the Armed Support Unit joined unformed officers and detectives conducting door-to-door enquiries. One line of inquiry links the violence to an intensifying feud between two warring factions. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage and provided contact numbers.
