I'm here to win': darts world champion Luke Littler has ominous warning for rivals
"Luke Littler has warned his rivals that he intends to be around for a very long time and win plenty more PDC world titles after adding a second crown by defeating the Dutchman Gian van Veen in a one-sided demolition. And the 18-year-old didn't entirely rule out chasing down Phil Taylor's record of 16 world titles after emphatically proving himself as the best darts player on the planet again by winning 7-1."
"Nothing will ever beat a first world title for anyone in any sport, that's the first time you've done it, said Littler. But this was just all about retaining it and adding my name to the list of world champions to go back-to-back. It's very special. We've got to keep going and adding more titles, we can't stop here. Asked about the match, Littler said: I was expecting everything."
"I was expecting Gian to throw the kitchen sink at me. Obviously he did that in the first set. He could have gone 2-0 up, but from there I don't really know what happened. He missed a few doubles here and there, and I just had to pounce on him. Littler also revealed that he was so locked in he didn't realise that he hadn't eaten all day until he arrived at Alexander Palace."
Luke Littler retained the PDC world title by defeating Gian van Veen 7-1, securing a second world crown with a dominant performance. He indicated intentions to compete for many years and did not rule out chasing Phil Taylor's 16-title record, noting he still has 14 to go. Littler recorded a 106 three-dart average and became the fourth player to retain a PDC world title. He emphasized that a first world title is unmatched but described back-to-back success as very special. Littler expected a tough match, capitalized on missed doubles by van Veen, and admitted he had not eaten until arriving at Alexander Palace.
