He produced a knife and threatened staff and customers in front of other employees and shoppers, causing staff to fear for their lives. The assault was unprovoked and occurred inside the supermarket. Shortly afterwards, Nkencho was fatally shot by gardaí outside his home in west Dublin. Evidence describing the assault and the knife threat was presented at a sitting of Dublin District Coroner's Court.
