""The aim of this type of hybrid attack is to spread fear, create division and frighten us," Denmark's Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said. He added that Copenhagen would acquire new enhanced capabilities to "detect" and "neutralise drones". Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Thursday that she had spoken with NATO chief Mark Rutte about the incidents. Rutte said afterwards he was taking the drone flights "very seriously"."
"Moscow said Thursday it "firmly rejects" any suggestion that it was involved in the Danish incidents. "The incidents involving reported disruptions at Danish airports are a staged provocation," Russia's embassy in Copenhagen said in a post on social media. The head of Denmark's military intelligence, Thomas Ahrenkiel, told a news conference the service had not been able to identify who was behind the drones."
Drones flew over several airports across Denmark, causing at least one airport to close for hours. Similar incidents occurred earlier in Copenhagen and in Poland and Romania, and Russian fighter jets violated Estonian airspace, increasing regional tensions. Denmark's Justice Minister described the flights as a hybrid attack aimed at spreading fear and division, and said Copenhagen would acquire enhanced capabilities to detect and neutralise drones. The Prime Minister spoke with NATO leadership, who took the flights very seriously. Russia denied involvement and called the events staged provocations. Danish military intelligence has not identified the operators, but officials warned the risk of Russian sabotage is high.
