"The UFT has a good faith basis to believe that 'Jose Tricoche' is Ms. Lynch-Reyes' spouse, Miguel Reyes. The UFT demands that the Department immediately cease and desist from engaging in fraudulent and defamatory online attacks of UFT representatives, including Adam Shapiro, and from unlawfully interfering with the Union's representation function in District 21."
"While not the direct target of the complaints, Lynch-Reyes found herself in the crosshairs. After the setback came to light, her husband, Miguel Reyes - according to the UFT's general counsel, Beth Norton - allegedly struck back. Falsely claiming to be a staff member at the Midwood school named Jose Tricoche, he made a series of social media posts personally attacking Shapiro, the union claimed."
Acting Superintendent Erin Lynch-Reyes of Brooklyn's District 21 faced mounting calls for removal following allegations that her husband, Miguel Reyes, impersonated a Midwood school staff member named Jose Tricoche on social media to attack Adam Shapiro, a United Federation of Teachers district representative. The impersonation occurred after Lynch-Reyes encountered obstacles in her bid to become permanent superintendent, stemming from labor disputes between teachers and school leadership. The UFT's general counsel sent a formal letter to city school officials demanding cessation of the fraudulent and defamatory online attacks and unlawful interference with union representation. Following the letter's delivery, the social media activity reportedly stopped. Lynch-Reyes, a 24-year veteran educator, had been appointed interim superintendent at the start of the school year.
