Thousands of Hungarians marched in Budapest demanding Prime Minister Viktor Orban's resignation over alleged government inaction amid repeated child-abuse scandals. Security camera footage showed the director of the Szolo Street juvenile detention centre kicking a boy in the head, prompting the detention of four staff and government plans to place all child facilities under direct police supervision. Protesters, led by opposition leader Peter Magyar, carried banners, soft toys and torches in solidarity with victims. A previously unpublished 2021 report released by Magyar found more than one-fifth of children in state-run care institutions had been abused. Authorities state that action is being taken against suspected abuse.
