"We have played by the rules and we have protested peacefully. We have asked to be heard, but nothing has changed. So now the Irish taxi industry is going up a gear. This is not a gesture. This is the full strength of the Irish taxi industry being brought to bear. We warned this would happen. Now it is happening."
"The Government has chosen silence instead of responsibility,"
"ignored, dismissed, and pushed to breaking point"
Taxi Drivers Ireland will stage a six-day national shutdown across Ireland from Monday December 8 to Saturday December 13 in response to Uber's introduction of a fixed-price model. Convoys will travel from Mountjoy Square to Merrion Square at 7am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and remain parked until 5pm. Dublin Airport protests will occupy holding areas and access locations from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday, plus 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, followed by a rolling convoy to the city centre and a slow rolling protest on Dame Street. Organisers cite weeks of warnings and government inaction and describe drivers as ignored and pushed to breaking point.
