Greenland and Denmark say Trump set on conquering' territory after meeting
"But the meeting failed to address key disagreements. Instead, the officials declared their intent to establish a working group to continue to address concerns about control over Greenland and security in the Arctic region. The group, in our view, should focus on how to address the American security concerns, while at the same time respecting the red lines of the Kingdom of Denmark, Rasmussen said."
"Motzfeldt, meanwhile, called for cooperation with the US but said that her position does not mean that the country wants to be owned by the United States. A social media account representing Greenland's government representation in the US and Canada also emphasised the need for Indigenous or kalaallit voices in any matters concerning the island. Last time a poll was done only 6% of Greenlanders/kalaallit were in favour of becoming a part of the US, the account wrote in a post on X."
Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers traveled to Washington to meet members of the US administration. They did not change the American position, and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said the president has a wish to conquer Greenland. Rasmussen and Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance but key disagreements remained. Officials declared intent to establish a working group to address control over Greenland and Arctic security, aiming to reconcile American security concerns with Denmark's red lines. Motzfeldt called for cooperation while rejecting US ownership, and Greenlandic voices stressed Indigenous inclusion; a poll showed only 6% favored US membership. European allies offered expanded Arctic security cooperation.
