"Miss Subway NYC" is the first solo exhibition of graffiti artist Lady Pink, an influential figure in the art scene since her teens. Born in Ecuador and raised in Queens, she began tagging at 15 and quickly gained recognition alongside prominent artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. The exhibition immerses visitors in the NYC subway culture, representing the characters that inspired her work. D'Stassi Art gallery co-owners emphasize the cultural significance of this exhibit, honoring Lady Pink’s contributions to graffiti and street art while showcasing her enduring legacy.
Graffiti writers risked their lives for their art. The subway trains were a moving canvas and the bloodstream of the scene. Teenagers competed for space and attention, pushing one another to go bigger, bolder and better.
This exhibition is not only an honour for the gallery, but a continuation of the story we began; exploring the early rise of graffiti and street art making its way from the streets to the galleries.
