The accident occurred when lift doors opened but the lift car was absent. He sustained multiple vertebral fractures and a shoulder injury requiring a six-hour surgical operation to reduce fractures and implant a shoulder plate. Pavan is currently in serious but not life-threatening condition and was forced to withdraw from the South African Open Championship at Stellenbosch Golf Club. According to his former college coach, he remains in good spirits and is communicating with his family via video call.
