"A majority of people in Germany don't think Chancellor Friedrich Merz's coalition government will last until the next election in 2029. According to a survey published by Bild newspaper and conducted by INSA, 54% of respondents said they thought the coalition government, comprised of Merz's conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the center-left Social Democrats (SPD), would collapse before the end of its legislative term. Of those polled, 29% said they believed the coalition government would last, while 11% of respondents provided no answer."
"The government's reform plans for Germany's pension system, which is facing the challenges inherent in an aging society, have come under criticism even from within Merz's conservative bloc. At the heart of the issue is an agreement by conservatives and the center-left to prop up pensions until 2031 at the current level of 48% of the income of an average earner."
A representative INSA survey of over 1,000 eligible voters conducted between November 21 and 24 found 54% of respondents believe Chancellor Friedrich Merz's CDU/CSU–SPD coalition will collapse before the 2029 election, while 29% expect it to last and 11% gave no answer. A majority of CDU/CSU supporters (56%) believed the coalition would endure. Tension centers on planned pension reforms: conservatives and the center-left agreed to maintain pensions at 48% of an average earner's income until 2031. A legislative proposal is planned for December, and the CDU/CSU youth wing criticizes the package as too costly for younger workers and future generations.
