Thousands of protesters gathered in Tbilisi, many waving Georgian and EU flags, and attempted to force their way into the presidential palace. Riot police used water cannons and tear gas to stop the crowd. The ruling Georgian Dream party claimed victory in every municipality in elections boycotted by the two main opposition blocs. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze accused protesters of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, announced arrests of organisers, and warned that many more would face sentences. Authorities detained activist Paata Burchuladze and the State Security Service reported finding a forest cache of weapons allegedly meant for subversive acts and an attempt to seize the palace.
