"I have been in politics for the last 10 years,"
"Compared to all previous ones, the most recent elections went off better than any before. Without any violations."
"The Georgian Dream government never refused to join the EU,"
"If 80% of the population supports joining the EU, and 60% supports Georgian Dream, what does that mean? It turns out the majority supports both EU membership and Georgian Dream."
"By 2030 Georgia will be ready to join the EU, but right now we don't know whether the EU's view will change or stay the same,"
Georgia experienced months of street protests and allegations of fraud after the October 2024 parliamentary elections. President Mikheil Kavelashvili defended the legitimacy of the vote and asserted it delivered a credible mandate for the ruling Georgian Dream party. He claimed the recent elections were better than previous ones and occurred without violations. International observers and the European Parliament noted shortcomings in democratic processes, and protesters demanded a faster EU membership path. Kavelashvili said the government remains committed to a European future despite frozen accession talks and noted declining public support. Polling shows roughly three-quarters favor EU integration, and Kavelashvili suggested Georgia could be ready by 2030 while EU judgement remains uncertain.
