Gangland criminal who killed UL student Joe Drennan in hit-and-run has five years added to sentence on appeal

"A gangland criminal, who caused the death of a 21-year-old student in a notorious hit-and-run case where he had filmed himself speeding just moments before, will now serve an extra five years in prison after the Court of Appeal ruled that his original eight-year sentence for this and other offences was unduly lenient."

Kieran Fogarty, identified as a gangland criminal, caused the death of 21-year-old student Joe Drennan in a notorious hit-and-run after filming himself speeding moments earlier. The Court of Appeal found the original eight-year sentence for this and other offences to be unduly lenient and increased the punishment by an additional five years. Fogarty was resentenced to a total of 14 years in prison, with the final year suspended. Ms Justice Tara Burns noted the serious impact of Fogarty’s actions on the victim’s family during the resentencing.
