Burns was speaking to the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communication, Culture and Sport as part of an integration delegation. The delegation is discussing progress toward the planned merger of the three Gaelic games organisations in 2027. During the session, Wicklow/Wexford TD Brian Brennan asked Burns whether anyone had approached him to be a presidential candidate. Burns said he had been approached but chose not to stand.
