GAA president Jarlath Burns confirms he was approached to run in the Irish Presidential election

"Addressing the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communication, Culture and Sport yesterday as part of an integration delegation discussing progress towards the planned merger of the three Gaelic games organisations in 2027, Burns was asked by one of the committee members, Wicklow/Wexford TD Brian Brennan, if there had been an approach to be a candidate."

Jarlath Burns, president of the GAA, confirmed he was approached to run for Áras an Uachtaráin in the recent Irish Presidential election and declined. Burns was speaking to the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communication, Culture and Sport as part of an integration delegation. The delegation is discussing progress toward the planned merger of the three Gaelic games organisations in 2027. During the session, Wicklow/Wexford TD Brian Brennan asked Burns whether anyone had approached him to be a presidential candidate. Burns said he had been approached but chose not to stand.
