Former inter-county GAA referee Thomas Howard jailed for more than six years for indecently assaulting niece when she was a child

Thomas Howard, aged 79 and of Old Kilcullen, Co Kildare, served as the referee in the 1993 Derry-Cork All-Ireland final. He has been sentenced to six years and nine months for indecently assaulting his niece from when she was three or four years old until she reached puberty. The offences occurred over the child’s early childhood and continued until puberty. He appeared before Judge Sineád McMullen at Portlaoise Circuit Court. Howard is identified as a prominent former GAA referee.
