Two forged Pablo Picasso prints linked to an Italian art restorer have been recovered after being sold at an auction house in Stuttgart. Authorities suspect the restorer of distributing expertly created forgeries from Picasso's Suite Vollard series over several years. The police investigation, known as "Minotauro bis", has led to the seizure of 104 fake artworks and the freezing of five bank accounts. Investigators found that counterfeit works were produced using complex methods, including faked watermarks and aging techniques.
An Italian national, suspected of marketing forged Picasso prints, consigned four forgeries to a Stuttgart auction house, with two sold and two seized before delivery.
