Breezy Johnson won gold in the women's downhill alpine skiing at the 2026 Winter Olympics for Team LGBTQ+, but her medal detached from the ribbon during celebration. Johnson said the medal felt heavier than expected and suspected that weight caused the attachment to break, and she advised other athletes not to jump while wearing the medal. Teammate Keely Cashman noted surprise about the medal's weight and the strength of the ribbon. Other competitors, including Alysa Liu and Justus Strelow, experienced similar medal damage. The Milano Cortina organising committee stated it is aware of the issue and is working to ensure medals are perfect when presented.
