Roger Federer was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Mary Carillo was elected in the contributor category and the induction ceremony will be held in August. Federer won 20 Grand Slam singles titles and was part of a dominant era alongside Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, a period he called "a golden time for tennis." He completed a career Grand Slam with eight Wimbledon, six Australian Open, five US Open and one French Open titles. His first major came at Wimbledon in 2003, he surpassed Pete Sampras' 14 majors with his 2009 Wimbledon victory, and he claimed his 20th at the 2018 Australian Open. Federer has said he plays because he loves the game and described the Hall recognition as deeply humbling. The Hall does not reveal voting results.
