EU leaders convened an emergency summit in Brussels to reassess relations with the United States after threats to annex Greenland and impose tariffs. The US suspended the tariff threats and said it would not use force to take Greenland, and the summit made no decisions. The immediate priority is implementation of the EU–US trade deal agreed in July 2025, with the US remaining the EU's largest trading partner. The EU will stand up for and defend its interests, member states, citizens and companies against coercion. The Commission acknowledged underinvestment in the Arctic and plans to double financial support for Greenland in the 2028 budget and propose a comprehensive package of investments.
