EU and India finalized a comprehensive trade agreement after nearly two decades of negotiations. The deal aims to enable free trade in goods between the 27-member European Union and India. The agreement would create a combined market of roughly two billion people and account for nearly a quarter of global GDP. Signing will occur after legal vetting expected to take about six months, followed by ratification by the European Parliament. European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen co-chaired the summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas signed a security and defense partnership with India.
