A deep area of low pressure crossing the south of the UK will produce a multi-hazard event through Thursday and into Friday. The Met Office has issued a rare 'danger to life' red wind warning for the Isles of Scilly and much of Cornwall as gusts of 100mph or more are forecast. Winds will rapidly increase on Thursday evening, lasting 2–3 hours before easing. The Cabinet Office issued emergency alerts to compatible mobile phones, with the first sent at about 3pm to the Isles of Scilly and a second around 5pm to Cornwall. An Amber warning for snow covers Wales, the Midlands and parts of northern England, and significant disruption and damaging winds are expected.
