The Ministry of Defence confirmed he was not on active front-line duty when he was injured. Defence Secretary John Healey expressed deep regret and said the family had been notified. Sir Keir Starmer praised Hooley's courage, determination and service around the world. The Parachute Regiment announced it was mourning his death and a friend reported there were multiple other fatalities.
