Doorbell prankster that tormented residents of German apartments turns out to be a slug
"We've gone to bed but we don't tend to answer the door after 10pm, so when the bell rang, I tried to ignore it. I thought it might be the kids from the abandoned house over the road, Lisa, 30, a shop sales assistant told the tabloid Bild. But then my sister in law who lives upstairs called, and asked whether our bell was ringing, as hers wouldn't stop."
"It kept ringing even as we telephoned and despite the fact no one could be seen at the door. We became really uneasy. That's when we decided to call the police. Together residents and police discovered the slug traversing the door entry panel. You could even see the slime trail it had made as it crawled over the sensors, Lisa said."
Residents of an apartment block in Bavaria were repeatedly awakened by a doorbell that buzzed relentlessly late at night. They initially suspected a klingelstreich (bell prank) by youths but the ringing continued after two police officers arrived and a motion detector failed to register any visitor. A close inspection of the metal bell plate revealed a slug (nacktschnecke) sliding up and down and leaving a visible slime trail over the sensors. The slug's movement repeatedly activated the bell, disturbing multiple households and prompting residents to call police to stop the noise.
