Two days of U.S.-mediated peace talks in Switzerland produced some progress but left key positions differing after difficult negotiations. President Zelensky said progress had been made but that positions remained divergent. Head of Ukraine's negotiating team Rustem Umerov described the second day as intensive and substantive and said both sides were working toward decisions for their presidents. Russia's chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said further negotiations would be held soon. Ukrainian officials accused Russia of negotiating in bad faith while conducting a winter bombing campaign and battlefield offensives. President Trump publicly urged Ukraine to come to the table, and Zelensky rejected plans requiring ceding territory not captured in Donbas.
