At the Ryder Cup opening ceremony in Farmingdale, European captain Luke Donald stressed pride, unity and resilience, saying the event is fueled by something money cannot buy. Donald highlighted Europe's legacy of togetherness and proving doubters wrong and stated the Ryder Cup is not about prize money or world ranking points but about pride. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley mistakenly referenced Justin Rose instead of Justin Leonard for a famous 1999 putt. More than 5,000 fans attended at Bethpage Black, chanting 'U-S-A!' and occasionally booing the European team.
