A tremor measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the El Teniente copper mine in central Chile, resulting in a partial collapse that killed one miner and trapped five others. Rescue operations are underway with approximately 100 workers attempting to reach the trapped miners, currently at a depth exceeding 900 meters. Codelco, the state-run copper producer, reported progress of 4 meters toward the miners but has not made contact. The cause of the tremor remains undetermined, and mine operations have been suspended following the incident.
