Angelina Melnikova, 2020 Olympic champion, will debut in Germany's gymnastics Bundesliga for TSV Tittmoning-Chemnitz for the final two rounds of the season. The 25-year-old has been accused by Ukrainian officials of supporting Vladimir Putin and backing his war in Ukraine, and has engaged with Russia's ruling United Russia party. Chemnitz's signing has drawn criticism from other Bundesliga clubs and Ukrainian sports officials, who have urged the FIG to review Melnikova's recently granted 'neutral' status. The FIG cleared Melnikova to compete internationally in March. The German government said sport must not be instrumentalized for Russian politics.
