D66 made the biggest gains in the Dutch elections, almost tripling its seats and emerging as a projected leader in government formation. Wilders' Freedom Party (PVV) fell sharply from its 2023 record showing but remained tied with D66 at 26 seats with 90% counted. Exit polls first showed a narrow D66 victory before vote counting slightly strengthened the PVV showing. Major mainstream parties refuse to govern with Wilders after he collapsed the prior coalition by pulling the PVV out over rejected anti-refugee plans. D66 leader Rob Jetten, 38, may become the youngest prime minister.
