
"Gardaí carried out a search warrant at a house in Kernanstown in the Bennekerry area of Co Carlow on Thursday afternoon, October 16, where a suspected pipe bomb was subsequently found. Gardaí say it is unknown at this time how long the device had been at this location. The occupants of the house were evacuated by gardaí with a cordon established around the property and the assistance of the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was requested."
"The pipe bomb was found to be "viable" and was safely removed from the house by the EOD unit overnight for further examination and for a controlled explosion to be conducted. A quantity of suspected benzodiazepine tablets were also seized during the search, pending analysis."
"Gardaí have preserved the scene in order to carry out further searches of the property. The cordon has been lifted and the area declared safe. Two men were arrested at a separate location and have been detained in Carlow Garda Station."
