John Purdy died aged 63 shortly after completing the sale of his company, Ergo, for an estimated €100m. He is survived by his wife Audrey and sons Conor and Kian. Purdy co-founded Ergo in 1993 with Tim Sheehy; the business grew from selling ink and supplies into an IT services provider offering cloud, infrastructure, security and license management to large private- and public-sector clients. A financial-services division, Fenergo, was spun out in 2012 and valued at €930m in 2021. Ergo now employs over 500 people across offices in Belfast, Minnesota, Romania, New Zealand and Dublin. Purdy won EY Industry Entrepreneur of the Year in 2014 and supported numerous start-ups.
