Bulgaria officially adopted the euro and entered the eurozone, increasing the number of euro users to more than 350 million. The country has been an EU member since 2007 and follows Croatia's entry in January 2023. European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde characterized the euro as a symbol of shared European values and collective strength. President Rumen Radev called the adoption the final step of EU integration but lamented the absence of a referendum and noted mass demonstrations. A Eurobarometer survey showed 49% opposition, businesses reported shortages of starter euro packages, banks warned of potential card and ATM disruptions, and the fixed exchange rate is 1.95583 levs per euro.
