"A €10 rise in weekly social welfare rates, including the State pension, jobseeker's benefit and disability payment, will come into effect as part of Budget 2026. There will again be double payments of welfare at Christmas time, excluding child benefit. The increases will be in effect from January 2026. The income disregard for the carer's allowance, is set to rise by €375 for a single person and by €750 for a couple."
"The Vat rate on food and drink will be reduced from 13.5pc to 9pc, in a move aimed at sustaining hospitality businesses into the future. The reduced rate of Vat will also apply to the hairdressing industry. The measure will not come into effect until the middle of next summer, on July 1, 2026. From January 1, there will be a permanent cut of €500 to third-level education fees."

The minimum wage will rise by €0.65 to €14.15 per hour from January 1, 2026, and the 2% USC rate band will expand to €28,700. The income disregard for carer's allowance will increase to €1,000 for singles and €2,000 for couples from 2026. The VAT rate on food, drink and hairdressing will fall to 9% from July 1, 2026. Third-level student contribution will be permanently cut by €500 from January 1.
