'Costs for shipping to the USA and other international destinations also rose year-on-year. 40.5% of retailers and 36.1% of manufacturers reported their global exports cost them more in December than in the same month of 2024. Trump's tariffs, introduced last April, played a role in this overall increase."

An additional 3.3% of retailers and 4.7% of manufacturers who exported in the last 12 months said EU shipping costs had stabilised but are now rising again. Global export costs increased year-on-year, with 40.5% of retailers and 36.1% of manufacturers reporting higher costs in December versus the same month in 2024; US tariffs contributed. Around 10,900 UK businesses responded. Exports fell: 40.6% of retailers and 26.8% of manufacturers exported less in December 2025 than a year earlier, and 9.7% of retailers and 6.9% of manufacturers did not export at all in October–December 2025, a peak trading period for retail.
