Blue Jays outfielder expresses frustration on latest injury setback
"Anthony Santander tells us (via interpreter) that mid-season MRIs in 2025 did not show the tear in his labrum. He and the #BlueJays opted for rehab, but when he ramped up hitting this winter and it felt uncomfortable, those MRIs did.- Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) February 18, 2026"
""It's not easy to deal with something like this. I mean, injuries, things that you cannot control, right?" said Santander (via Mitch Bannon on X). "Obviously, me as a ball player, coming here to a new team, signing my contract, I want to be there with the guys every day. But, unfortunately, things happen. They're not under your control. I mean, somepeople think differently, but I know who I am. I know I'm trying my best to be on the field with my teammates.""
"Santander signed a five-year, $95 million deal before the 2025 season. Since he signed his deal, the one-time All-Star only appeared in 54 games, where he hit just six home runs and knocked in 18 RBIs."
Anthony Santander will miss 5–6 months after undergoing left labral surgery on his shoulder. Mid-season MRIs in 2025 did not reveal the labral tear, and a recurrence of pain during January training revealed the full extent of the injury. Santander initially pursued rehab but elected surgery after discomfort returned when he ramped up hitting this winter. Santander signed a five-year, $95 million deal before the 2025 season and has appeared in only 54 games since signing, hitting six home runs with 18 RBIs. Santander expressed frustration and a strong desire to be on the field with his teammates. The Blue Jays must rework the lineup in his absence.
