"Putin said the same thing when Finland and Sweden joined NATO, when we supplied tanks, missiles, F-16s... The lesson is that we mustn't allow ourselves to be threatened. Initially, we only dared to fight back in Ukraine, out of fear of Putin's reaction. That only prolonged the war, because all our supply lines run through Russia. You have to attack them, as we're finally doing now. That was a red line for Putin too, but what did he do? Nothing. He knows: if I use nuclear weapons, they'll wipe Moscow off the map. Then the end of the world will be near."
"Our military knows what to do; they have the military potential and all the necessary capabilities. Everything will be done to ensure the security of our country."
Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken warned Vladimir Putin that use of nuclear weapons would result in Moscow being wiped off the map. Francken said he is not worried about Russia's nuclear rhetoric and believes the US would honor NATO's Article 5. Francken argued NATO must heed warnings from Moscow while continuing to help Ukraine defend its sovereignty. He said initial restraint out of fear prolonged the war and that Western forces now must attack Russian positions, noting Putin refrained from retaliation. The Kremlin vowed to protect security if Ukraine receives Tomahawk missiles, with Dmitry Peskov calling the situation very dramatic and tensions escalating.
