Bank of Ireland is installing hundreds of new ATMs in massive upgrade
"Bank of Ireland said its rolling programme of works has already delivered 168 new machines in 46 branches from Donegal to Wexford. In total, approximately 650 new devices will be deployed to every Bank of Ireland branch on the island of Ireland as part of a €60m investment. According to the bank, the new fleet has greater cash processing capacity and will slash energy use by more than half."
"The ATMs can be used for both withdrawals and lodgements and the majority will "recycle" cash - meaning that the same notes deposited can be used for withdrawals. To improve accessibility for customers with visual impairment, the new ATMs feature high-contrast screens and an earphone socket that enables audio guidance throughout the transaction, the bank said. According to the bank, the new fleet has greater cash processing capacity and will slash energy use by more than half."
Bank of Ireland will install more than 200 ATMs this year as part of a fleet renewal to improve reliability, accessibility and energy performance. The renewal is separate from Government access-to-cash rules; with the Central Bank, the Minister for Finance will set distance coverage (5–10km) and minimum ATMs per 100,000 in each of eight regions. The programme has delivered 168 machines in 46 branches; about 650 devices will be deployed across the island as part of a €60m investment. New machines increase cash processing capacity, cut energy use by over half, recycle deposited notes, and include high-contrast screens and audio guidance for visually impaired customers.
