"Austrian prosecutors on Monday filed terrorism charges against a now 21-year-old man accused of plotting an attack on Taylor Swift's August 2024 concert in Vienna. According to the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect, who has been detained since his arrest in August 2024, is facing terrorism charges, criminal organization charges, and other offenses. The prosecutor's office statement did not name the suspect, but Austrian media identified him as Beran A. He faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty."
"The 21-year-old Austrian is accused of having been a member of a terror organization from May 2023 "by planning and preparing a terrorist attack on the concert of singer Taylor Swift," the prosecutors said in a statement. They added that he participated in and "openly aligned himself" with the so-called "Islamic State" group by sharing its propaganda through various messaging services and committing other offenses."
"Three dates of Taylor Swift's record-breaking "Eras" tour were canceled in the summer of 2024 after authorities warned of a plot. She later wrote on social media that "the reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many had planned on coming to those shows.""
The suspect, identified by Austrian media as Beran A., has been detained since his August 2024 arrest and faces terrorism, criminal organization and other charges that carry up to 20 years in prison. He is accused of membership in the so-called Islamic State since May 2023 and of planning and preparing a terrorist attack on Taylor Swift's August 2024 Vienna concert. Allegations include sharing IS propaganda, attempting to obtain weapons, producing a small amount of explosives, developing a shrapnel bomb modeled on IS attacks, and receiving explosives-handling instructions from IS members. Three Eras tour dates were canceled; US intelligence helped thwart the plot.
