America's NATO allies erupt in tariff fury: read their rebuke of Trump | Fortune
""The Kingdom of Denmark is receiving strong support. At the same time, it has become even clearer that this is an issue that extends far beyond our own borders," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a statement, adding that it is "all the more important" that the allies "stand firm on the fundamental values that created the European community. We want to cooperate, and we are not the ones seeking conflict.""
""Threats have no place among allies," Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stf8re wrote on social media. "Norway's position is firm: Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Norway fully supports the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark. There is broad agreement in NATO on the need to strengthen security in the Arctic, including in Greenland.""
""We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed," Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on social media. "I will always stand up for my country, and for our allied neighbors. This is an EU issue that concerns many more countries than those now being singled out.""
The United States announced 10% tariffs starting next month on eight countries — Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland — over opposition to American control of Greenland. It is unclear whether the tariffs will apply to the European Union as a bloc. The U.S. framed the tariffs as retaliation for deployments of symbolic troop levels to Greenland, while European leaders said those deployments responded to calls for strengthened Arctic security. Several governments publicly rejected threats and reaffirmed Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland and NATO cooperation on Arctic security.
