'A formidable woman' - President and Taoiseach among mourners at funeral of Sister Stan
"Do pray that justice may be accomplished in peace and that truth may prevail."
"Very definite ideas about how we should celebrate her passing."
"was to provide the best way possible for those who are needy, sick, destitute and heart sore"
"a formidable woman in many ways, with high standards and expectations, and she could be as stubborn and as determined as any of us, and maybe more so than most of us."
A funeral mass in Donnybrook honored Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, attended by President Michael D Higgins, the Tánaiste Simon Harris, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, former president Mary McAleese and others. The Taoiseach was represented by an aide de camp while attending COP30 in Brazil. The service, led by Father Richard Hendrick, featured The Deer's Cry and a musical version of St Patrick's Breastplate, and the missal carried a prayer urging justice and truth. Sister Una said Kennedy planned much of the funeral, stressed her lifelong work for the needy and described her as a formidable, determined advocate. Kennedy died after a short illness at St Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown and received widespread tributes.
