Eleven additional library branches in New York City will open on Sundays starting September 7, increasing accessibility to libraries across the five boroughs. This $2 million expansion, funded through the city budget, aims to enhance services such as literacy programs and technology classes. With this change, over 30 libraries will now be available on Sundays. The Kew Gardens Hills branch will also open on Saturdays, providing more opportunities for community engagement and support during a time of rising attendance and demand for resources.
"Libraries are among our most precious public resources," Adams said, adding that the funding will help more residents access literacy programs, technology classes and career resources.
The new hours will bring the total number of libraries open on Sundays to more than 30.
