Learn to Meditate: Free Classes + Retreat (SF)
"Whether you're new to meditation or you want to revitalize your practice, let's unpack and experience the Buddha's meditation instructions together. This is an Insight-oriented meditation class, grounded in the Buddha's Four Foundations of Mindfulness. Each session will include a combination of guided and silent meditations, short talks on the Four Foundations, short mindful movement sessions (chi gung or walking meditation), recommendations for home practice, plus reports, comments, and Q&A."
"We encourage you to sign up for and attend all 4 sessions, for the continuity of learning and cohesion of the sangha group, but drop-ins are welcome. About the teachers: Kitty Costello has been teaching meditative and movement practices for more than forty years. She found her Dharma home in Insight Meditation practice in 2000 and since graduated from Spirit Rock's Community Dharma Leaders Program. She teaches at various local sanghas, is a writer, a publisher, a poet, and a retiring psychotherapist."
Four weekly sessions (Tuesdays, January 20 and 27 and February 10, 7:15 - 8:30 pm) and a half-day retreat (Saturday, February 14, 9 am - 1 pm) present the Buddha's meditation instructions through Insight-oriented practice. Sessions combine guided and silent meditations, short talks on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, mindful movement (chi gung or walking meditation), home practice recommendations, reports, comments, and Q&A. Attendance at all four sessions is encouraged for continuity and sangha cohesion, though drop-ins are welcome. Kitty Costello and David Onek lead the program. A suggested donation of $15 applies; no one is turned away for lack of funds. Venue: San Francisco Dharma Collective, 2929 24th Street. Event details may change; confirm with the organizer.
