Miami-Dade County Commission picks a new member from West Miami
Briefly

Natalie Milian Orbis was appointed to the Miami-Dade County Commission to fill the vacancy left by Kevin Cabrera, who became U.S. ambassador to Panama. Milian Orbis, 38, a seasoned county employee and West Miami leader, will complete Cabrera's remaining two-year term after being selected by a majority of commissioners. Rejecting a special election, supporters highlighted her 18 years of service in Miami-Dade. Although opposed by three commissioners favoring a public vote, Milian Orbis aims to run for a full term in 2026 following her swearing-in.
"She has been a valuable team member in Miami-Dade County for 18 years," Chair Anthony Rodriguez said ahead of the vote.
"It's an honor to be able to serve," Milian Orbis told the media after the vote.
