Marlins receive huge gift at #7 overall when top college bat falls in their lap
Briefly

The Miami Marlins finished a brutal 2024 season and secured a top-10 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Miami selected Oregon State shortstop Aiva Arquette with the seventh overall pick. Arquette is widely considered the best college position player, known for consistent, loud contact and a 6'5", 220-pound frame capable of adding strength. Projections indicate he can remain at shortstop and advance rapidly through the minor leagues as a hitter. Miami also holds the #43 compensation pick and the #46 pick in round two and carries the sixth-highest draft bonus pool at $15,187,400. The team is positioned to be active during draft day as selections unfold.
Once again, a brutal 2024 season has led to the Miami Marlins picking in the top 10 again. While that means that the regular season was a slog to live through, the pick placement is pretty fortuitous especially given that the 2025 MLB Draft has a top tier of prospects that goes around nine to 11 players deep. The most recent mock draft from Baseball America had the Marlins circling Auburn catcher Ike Irish as their pick in the first round.
He makes consistent and loud contact and at 6'5 and 220 pounds, you can see him adding even more strength as a pro. All signs point to him being able to stick at shortstop and being a hitter that could easily blast through the minor leagues pretty quickly. Don't expect much of a draft bonus slot discount given how highly Arquette is thought of, but a very solid pick nonetheless.
