Three vessels have been hijacked off the coast of Somalia in the past week, signaling a potential resurgence in piracy. The merchant vessel Sward was captured on April 26, following the hijacking of a dhow and the motor tanker Honour 25 on April 21. The Maritime Security Centre Indian Ocean advises vessels to maintain heightened vigilance within 150 nautical miles of the Somali coast. Piracy incidents had decreased significantly since 2014, but have begun to rise again in 2023, compounding challenges for the global shipping industry.
