Coast Guard suspends search for six onboard plane that crashed off California coast
Briefly

The search for survivors of a Cessna 414 crash into the ocean off Sunset Cliffs has been suspended after extensive efforts yielded no results. The aircraft, bound for Phoenix, lost altitude shortly after departing San Diego International Airport and crashed approximately 5 miles offshore. Rescuers, including the Coast Guard and nearby boats, worked for over 35 hours searching 300 square miles, but the six individuals aboard are presumed dead. The incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The decision to suspend a search is never an easy one, Lt. Cmdr. Justin Brooks, a search and rescue mission coordinator at Coast Guard Sector San Diego, said in a statement.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, while the Coast Guard worked diligently for more than 35 hours in the search efforts.
