The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game series against the Miami Marlins after beating the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Marlins are 25-29 and fourth in the National League East, coming off a three-game sweep of the New York Mets. Miami includes Canadians Owen Caissie, Liam Hicks, and Otto López, with Hicks and López among the team’s top wRC+ performers and Xavier Edwards leading at 147. López, a former Blue Jay, was designated for assignment in 2024, traded to the Giants, then claimed by Miami. Janson Junk starts for Miami, posting a 5.07 ERA and 4.28 FIP with mid-90s velocity, solid walk control, low strikeout rate, and eight home runs allowed. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is day-to-day after an elbow injury, and Dylan Cease is on the 15-day injured list with hamstring discomfort. Nathan Lukes returns to the Blue Jays lineup after a hamstring strain.
"One player who won't be in Monday's lineup is first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who took a sinker to the elbow in the fifth inning of Sunday's game. He's listed as day-to-day, while the Blue Jays placed Dylan Cease on the 15-day injured list with mild left hamstring discomfort. Like Guerrero Jr., Cease departed in the fifth inning and won't be back until at least June 8th. Nathan Lukes is back in the Blue Jays lineup for the first time since April 24th, as he suffered a strained hamstring while running out a double."
