Blue Jays acquire Connor Seabold from Tigers

Connor Seabold was acquired from the Detroit Tigers after being designated for assignment, with the Blue Jays sending pitching prospect Juanmi Vasquez to the American League Central team. Seabold previously appeared in six spring training games for the Blue Jays, posting a 6.75 ERA and 4.85 FIP over 6.2 innings, and later signed a big league deal with Detroit after opting out of his contract. With the Tigers, Seabold recorded a 3.45 ERA and 4.10 FIP over 15.2 innings across 11 outings. The Blue Jays placed Jose Berrios on the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster, while Dylan Cease’s injury left the rotation with only three full-time starters. Tanner Andrews filled in before being optioned, and the next roster move for Seabold remains unclear. Vasquez has pitched for High-A Vancouver, posting a 5.87 ERA and 4.56 FIP over 23 innings, with his best season coming in 2025.

However, the Blue Jays didn't add him to the 40-man roster, with Seabold opting out of his contract and signing a big league deal with the Tigers."

"In 11 outings with the Tigers, Seabold had a respectable 3.45 ERA and 4.10 FIP in 15.2 innings pitched, with a 20.3 K% and 7.2 BB%. In his four big league seasons with 10 or more innings pitched, Seabold is pacing to have his best season. That said, he's only pitched 20 or more innings once in his career, appearing in 27 games with the Colorado Rockies in the 2023 season, where he posted a 7.52 ERA and 5.75 FIP in 87.1 innings of work."

"With Dylan Cease on the 15-day injured list, the Blue Jays have just three full-time starters in the rotation. Tanner Andrews replaced Cease and pitched on Monday and Tuesday, before he was optioned to call up Austin Voth. It's unclear what the follow up move will be to get Seabold on the 26-man roster. As for Vasquez, the left-handed pitcher has spent the season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he's pitched to the tune of a 5.87 ERA and 4.56 FIP in 23 innings over 12 outings."
